Content-based materials on weather for class II.

Content-based materials

I have developed teaching materials to teach class II students about the ‘weather’.  I have created this material by using PowerPoint as ICT tool because the main purpose of using ICT in the classroom is to equip learners with 21st century skills to improve the quality teaching by using different methods/ ways with the use of ideas and implementing the ICT skills. Then, I converted PowerPoint presentation into video form because video lesson is more persuasive compare to others and it also addresses different learning styles visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. I have chosen English subject of class two to teach about weather and the main objectives are let students identify the different types of weather, describe the types of weather and name the types of weather. The materials contains all concrete lesson because children at this stage will learn more easily through concrete rather than representation and abstract lesson. Moreover, concrete lesson will help children to engage meaningfully through hands on experience and to have strong base in their learning.

Creation of content-based materials

Now let me share you all about how I have created the content-based materials. To design this materials, I have collected all the ideas about weather and started designing using different shapes. I have used different shapes and colours to make my materials presentable for all the students with different learning styles. Additionally I have designed my materials using different animations to make the materials more realistic for the learners. I have also added voiceover along with the sound of rain and wind in the slides which will help students to understand better through audio. I have used good colour combination to make the text readable by the students and I have used presentable background for the slides because it helps to provide visual consistency for the learners. Arial Black is my text font to provide the information of the lesson because I found it more clear and easy to read the text by the readers. Finally I converted my PowerPoint presentation into video form because the video lesson will increase the knowledge retention, since they can be stop and replayed as many times as needed. Furthermore, the video lesson will to engage their sensory experiences than using print materials.

When to use?

The materials I have designed will be use during lesson development where the materials contains only the information about the topic that the students are going to learn in the particular period. It also increase the student’s engagement in learning which in turn boost achievement. If students are interested in video lesson, they will process and remember what they have learnt easily. The content-based materials I have created will be used during the lesson development. Not only the video lesson but also I have created activity worksheet with the use of rectangle shapes which will be used during learning activity and to check the progress of students.  

How to use?

The video lesson I have created will be use while giving information inputs about the topic. After the lesson introduction, I will display video for the students and let them watch and ask them to tell what they have understood from the video. After that along with the video, I will explain the lesson with examples. The activity I have design will be used during the activity time by providing clear instructions with explanation of activity questions to enhance the student’s understanding and infuse fun in learning as well as boost student’s confidence and the ability to think critically. Moreover, it also help teachers to know how much students have understood the lesson from this particular materials.

ü  Let students to do the activity individually.

ü  Every student will get worksheet which contains questions to do activity.

ü  In order to do this activity, teacher will provide 10 minutes

ü  After completion of the activity, teacher will ask them to present their activity (volunteer basis)

ü  If there is any error, teacher will make the correction.
